Hello! I’m Claudia, and I have a confession to make: I never used to like breakfast. As a child, I used to hate breakfast food (except for pancakes), and would eat leftover pasta – or worse, apple pie – for breakfast. I gradually made to transition towards being a breakfast person during high school, and now I often wake up ridiculously early just because I can’t wait for my breakfast!
Why did I used to hate breakfast? Well, I found cereal with milk too soggy, and toast was just too boring. But then I discovered eating cereal with yogurt, and soon tried some muesli. I was completely addicted to toasted muesli for a few years, before I became more health-conscious and realised just how much sugar and oil is in packaged toasted muesli. So I started making my own muesli, and liked it a lot more.
During 2013, I discovered oatmeal. It was winter, and it was cold, so I wanted a warm, comforting breakfast. Both my parents ate oatmeal, so I thought I’d give it a go. First, I tried making it in the microwave, and the damn thing kept exploding on me. The taste was pretty good, but I tended to overcook the oats and it turned into goo. Then I discovered the joys of stovetop oatmeal. Let me tell you this: once you’ve gone stovetop, you can’t go back. The oats were creamy, yet still had a bit of a bite to them. As I experimented with more flavors, I became more and more addicted to oatmeal. In fact, I’ve often had oatmeal for lunch or dinner, as well as breakfast.
So that’s how I became a devoted lover of breakfast. FYI, I also became a vegetarian when I was fourteen.
Of course, there’s a little bit more to me than just food. I’m currently in law school (and have a degree in economics), I love to draw cartoons, I’ve played the piano since I was four, and I love to read the newspaper every day (I realize that may seem odd, coming from an online blogger).
Am I truly a “drama queen”? Not really, as I don’t like making a scene and would rather write a letter to a politician than start protesting. But I do like to take my breakfasts to whole new levels, and make them “dramatic”, if you will (If you don’t believe me, check out the Banana Split Overnight Oats or Burger Baked Oatmeal). So in that sense, I like to consider myself an “honorary drama queen”.
Not surprisingly, the pictures above are of me. My parents were on vacation in Florence, where there are quite a few people who make personalized aprons/hats.
About the Blog
This blog is my hobby; it’s something I do just because I love breakfast food, taking photos, and writing these often-random blog posts.
While I try to cover all sorts of breakfast foods (and I’m working on adding more savory stuff), expect to find lots of oatmeal, granola and pancakes this little blog of mine. I also aim to make these recipes on the healthier side, although it seems everyone has a different idea of ‘healthy’.
In the end, this blog is really only about one thing: enjoying a stack of pancakes! Or other breakfast food. But particularly pancakes.
